The ATHERTONS ride the hottest tires in the Downhill World Cup. As of now, these tires come from Germany – from Continental in Korbach. No family is more successful in the mountain bike scene than the ATHERTONS. Dan (27), Gee (24) and Rachel (21) are world leaders in their respective events, and the siblings have numerous victories from world cup, world championships and many other events in their cabinet.
The Athertons’ meteoric rise reached its latest high point with Gee Atherton’s victory at the world championships in 2008. Rachel, the youngest of the speedy clan, was the first Brit to win the Elite Women UCI Downhill World Championship, and crowned her amazing achievements with several World Cups and European Championships. Dan, the eldest of the three siblings, was National UK Champion as early as 2004, and became the World Cup winner in the 4X Round 2 in 2008.
The three Brits now form the International Pro Mountain Bike Race Team Animal – Commencal. They line up in the downhill, fourcross and freeride disciplines on bikes from mountain bike guru Max Commencal, with tires from Continental.
Continental has stood for German engineering since 1871. As the exclusive German manufacturer, Conti produces bike tires “Handmade in Germany”. Continental throws its new improved “Black Chili Compound” into the mix, which has been developed with the most modern research methods in the Conti R&D laboratory. The proven compound has been fundamentally reworked, thus significantly improving the performance values: 26 % less rolling resistance, 30 % more grip and a 5 % higher mileage!
This unique performance, which makes the crucial difference on the track, has convinced the Athertons to rely on Conti for the next three years.
